MIDNIGHT OIL
GAS STATION
How long have you been on this road? Perhaps a lifetime— maybe two? This is the only gas station for miles. Don't shy away if something about it feels... off. It’s a very hospitable place. You aren't alone in the darkness.
Midnight Oil Gas: a place that exists forever, never, and only at midnight. Between the "t" and "h" of "there," in that sinking feeling of a 12-paged all-nighter— Who knows how long it hasn’t been here? Who built it? What is it trying to keep away? An aura of passion and whimsy flows from its gasoline, but its origin remains to be discovered. Nebulous in nature, yet strangely familiar— Have you been here before?
The impossible is quite unremarkable here, a transitional space where forgotten ideas drift in and out, cartoons linger, robots dance, and owls play soccer with their own heads— true freedom with no need for justification. Personified psychosis lurk in every direction, coasting on the cracked pavement of a beautiful, lonely road with no apparent ending… and a slurpy machine with over 80 flavors. Sorry, it’s hard not to trail off on the Highway Hypnosis.
When swaying into the edge of twilight, you can barely just make out this quaint little place between the sand in your eyes, where your pillow and the darkness
dance a harmonic fight.
Where dreams are made. Where nightmares harvest.
Welcome to Midnight Oil.

THE STORY BEGINS

This is where we meet ROBI. Ever since she was a baby-bot, ROBI never fit in with her peers because of her janky programming. She harbored a burning obsession with owning and running her own filling station to connect with her robot peers and gain their acceptance. She has a genuine interest in the petroleum industry and a desire to be involved; it makes sense to her as a robot being literally fueled by it.
She figured she would start her own business, but lacked one thing to make her dreams come true: a location.
1.
No robot place would sell to her for being so different. So, in her ambitious rush to start her own gas station, she foolishly shook hands with Static, a shady, white-gloved salesman with TV-static where his face should be, for a location out on North Dreamie Lane.
2.

ROBI soon realizes why the area was so cheap and why the crooked salesman was so eager for her to sign the deed: the gas station is covered in incomprehensible oddities trying to take it over, and the salesman didn't see any potential in the land. ROBI is now paying a price far steeper than she had ever imagined, stuck in the infinite limbo running Midnight Oil Gas Station.
3.
She discovers why the abnormal beings are so hard to control: only the unusual purple gasoline tames them. It keeps them from living in lifelong agony. She learns to be more gracious to them, as she also considers herself an oddity compared to the other robots. She tries to give them leftover fuel to stop their pain, which coincidentally also turns them into more cohesive beings that we now call our Midnight Oil Animations.
4.

She is in awe of many of the oddities, admiring some of their demigod-like creative powers; however, while intriguing, some oddities are too chaotic and destructive for the irritated robot. With her limited resources, ROBI must control this chaos if she wants to grow her gas station and be the best gas pumper ever programmed!
